Voopoo Argus Pro, what its reviewers report after use
Search for the Voopoo Argus Pro and most of what comes back is about its successor. The pages at the top mostly describe the Argus Pro 2, released later under an almost identical name, and the first model gets lost among the product listings. Its first published reviews date back to December 2020, with precise remarks on the draw, the battery and a few irritating flaws. Here is what they took away, and what really sets it apart from version 2.
What reviewers take away from the Voopoo Argus Pro
The published reviews agree on the essentials. The finish and the feel in the hand come up in both write-ups consulted, one of them stressing the contrast between the alloy and the leather.
The most detailed review, published by Planet of the Vapes in February 2021, finds the Voopoo Argus Pro very convincing for direct-lung vaping, especially with the 0.15 ohm coil, and credits the GENE.TT chip with instant firing. Its reservations concern details, with a pod that occasionally lets a drop through, an auto-draw mode judged of little use and a lanyard bar that rattles.
The comparison test published in December 2020 by a French retailer praises the finish, the design and fast USB-C charging. Its only criticism is the built-in battery, which cannot be replaced.
The Argus Pro spec sheet, as Voopoo publishes it
The manufacturer lists for the Voopoo Argus Pro a 3000 mAh built-in battery, output adjustable from 5 to 80 W, output voltage from 3.2 to 4.2 V and a resistance range of 0.1 to 3 ohms. The colour screen measures 0.96 inch, and charging runs through a USB-C port at 5 V and 2 A.
The PnP pod, made of PCTG, holds 4.5 ml in its standard version. In the UK, refillable tanks and pods are capped at 2 ml, and Voopoo sells a 2 ml TPD version that meets that limit. Nicotine e-liquid to fill it is limited to 20 mg/ml in bottles of up to 10 ml.
On coils, the device takes the whole PnP range, including the PnP-RBA that you build yourself. The kit reviewed in early 2021 contained a 0.3 ohm PnP-VM1 and a 0.15 ohm PnP-VM6. The manufacturer’s current sheet now lists a 0.15 ohm PnP-TW15 and a 0.3 ohm PnP-TW30. Two kits from different periods therefore do not contain the same coils, even though the values match.
Draw and coils, the Argus Pro in use
The pod mod format of the Argus Pro is clearly aimed at direct-lung vaping. Airflow is set by a slider on the back, firm enough not to move in a pocket, and the British reviewer describes a very open draw with the slider pushed all the way.
The 0.3 ohm, a restricted direct-lung draw
Rated from 32 to 40 W, the PnP-VM1 already gives clean flavour at 20 W according to that reviewer. The reviewer settled at around 37 W with the airflow half open, for a slightly tight direct-lung draw that is a little noisy.
The 0.15 ohm, the most praised
The PnP-VM6, rated from 60 to 80 W, shows very little exposed cotton, which first surprised that reviewer. It wicked well all the same, and it is with this coil, set at around 62 W, that the write-up describes the best flavour and plenty of vapour.
Even with the airflow closed, a little air still gets through. With a mouth-to-lung coil, the draw would therefore stay fairly loose according to that reviewer, which confirms that the Voopoo Argus Pro is built for direct-lung vaping.
Battery life, charging and the odd drip
The 3000 mAh battery covers a day of use at 62 W according to the February 2021 review, and more comfortably at 37 W. A full charge took about 80 minutes. The device does not allow vaping while it charges.
No real leak was reported. The reviewer simply notes that a drop or two appears under the pod now and then, hence the advice to wipe the pod seat at each refill and to take the pod off when the device is not in use.
With the 2 ml TPD pod, the pod empties quickly at high power and refills become frequent. That is the trade-off of the 2 ml rule, not a flaw specific to this model.
The niggles reported after a few days
Four remarks come up in the most complete write-up, and none of them concerns vapour production.
The auto-draw mode, shown as A&P on screen, only triggers reliably with the airflow almost closed and a firm inhale. With the airflow open, that reviewer finds it close to unusable.
After a period of inactivity, the device needs a first press of the button to wake up, then a second to fire. The lanyard bar above the screen rattles, to the point that the reviewer ended up removing it.
Despite well protected controls, no IP67 rating is claimed, something the same write-up points out with some surprise.
Argus Pro or Argus Pro 2, what really changes
Since searches mix the two devices up, the table below sets them side by side, based on spec sheets and published reviews. Dimensions are those measured or reported by reviewers.
| Criterion | Argus Pro (reviewed from 2020) | Argus Pro 2 (reviewed in 2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in battery | 3000 mAh | 3000 mAh |
| Output | 5 to 80 W | 5 to 80 W |
| Pod | PnP, 4.5 ml or 2 ml TPD | PnP X, 5 ml or 2 ml TPD |
| Coils | PnP range, PnP-RBA included | PnP X range |
| Modes | Smart and RBA | Smart, RBA and Turbo |
| Lock | button combination | switch below the screen |
| Filling | from the bottom | from the side |
| Dimensions | about 124 x 35 x 31 mm | about 127 x 35 x 30 mm |
The biggest change concerns consumables. The Argus Pro 2 moves to the PnP X platform, with coils slightly larger than the original PnP ones according to a British review from February 2024. That same review measured about 2400 mAh of usable capacity and close to 2 hours 30 minutes for a full charge, far from the 80 minutes recorded on the first model. The built-in battery sets the lifespan of both devices, as on the Innokin Kroma Z, while a pod mod with a removable cell such as the Voopoo Drag X3 escapes that limit.
FAQ
Five practical questions come up about this pod mod, from handling to coils.
How do you lock the Argus Pro?
According to the February 2021 review, pressing the fire button and the plus button together locks the device. The fire button with the minus button resets the puff counter, and five quick presses turn the device on or off.
How do you switch between Smart and RBA modes?
According to the same review, three presses of the fire button change the mode. In Smart, output follows the detected coil and will not exceed its maximum, with a Max Power message if you try. In RBA, output can be set freely between 5 and 80 W.
How do you fill the PnP pod?
First detach the pod, which is held magnetically on the device, then open the filling bung on its underside. The coil pushes into the base and comes out with a gentle pull, and it is best to let the cotton soak before the first draw.
What does the screen show?
The colour screen shows the battery level, output, voltage, coil resistance, puff count and the length of the last puff. It also shows the active mode and whether auto-draw is on.
Which PnP coils suit lower power?
The manufacturer lists PnP coils from 0.8 to 1.2 ohm, rated between 10 and 18 W, such as the 1 ohm PnP-R2 or the 1.2 ohm PnP-TR1. They remain compatible, since the device takes the whole PnP range, and are set within their own range in either Smart or RBA mode.
Voopoo Argus Pro, what its reviews suggest you can expect
Reviewers describe a well finished pod mod, quick to fire and convincing for direct-lung vaping, especially at 0.15 ohm. Its flaws stay minor, with a few drops under the pod, an awkward auto-draw and a noisy lanyard bar.
Next to the Argus Pro 2, the Voopoo Argus Pro keeps the original PnP platform and, going by published measurements, charges faster. More broadly in vaping, reviews gathered over time say the most about a device once the novelty has worn off.
